Geothermal Geosteering

Geothermal energy, historically restricted due to geographical constraints, may be on the brink of a significant expansion thanks to innovations from Eavor Technologies in Calgary. Eavor's groundbreaking approach involves the integration of unconventional petroleum techniques, particularly horizontal drilling, and the utilization of Rogii’s StarSteer geosteering software. Their method is founded on a closed-loop system of subsurface wells, harnessing the natural thermosiphon effect: hot fluids ascend in the inlet well, while cooler fluids descend in the outlet. To implement this, twin horizontal wells are drilled and connected deep underground, a feat requiring precision geosteering. Chinook Consulting of Calgary provided the precise geosteering expertise, with specialized magnetic ranging sensors offering pivotal guidance as the wellbores neared each other. The combination of innovative technologies, including horizontal drilling, magnetic ranging sensors, and StarSteer, promises to expand geothermal energy's reach and intensify its potential output. Furthermore, the scalability of this approach allows it to be tailored to specific areas, offering a customizable solution for geothermal energy deployment.
