How to Generate Power from Natural Gas without CO2 Emissions
By: Carlo Coltri, Tsuyoshi Ishida (September 2020)
This paper discusses the potential synergy between the Allam Cycle, a power generation process utilizing supercritical CO2, and the extraction of shale gas using the same supercritical CO2 that's a byproduct of the Allam Cycle. The integration of these technologies could enable power generation from natural gas without CO2 emissions, thanks to the subsequent sequestration of CO2 during shale gas extraction.
The paper also addresses current issues related to extraction with supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2), highlighting its advantages over hydraulic fracturing. These include improved shale gas extraction efficiency and the potential for CO2 sequestration. This proposed combination of techniques could present a novel and environmentally conscious approach to energy production.
